Clearing Clutter, Room by Room
Feng Shui provides a lot of insight about clutter. Clutter gets in the way of healthy Chi, the life-force energy that’s present in everything. Chi energy needs a clear open path through your home so it can bring its positive benefits into every part of your life.
Clutter slows down or even stops Chi energy, causing it to stagnate and make you feel stuck — and most importantly interfering with your ability to live your richest, most abundant life.
Besides, every unloved or unnecessary item in your home takes up room that could be used for something better.
Let’s take a look at clearing clutter, room by room.
Clutter around the entryway – Since the entrance to your home is the “mouth of Chi,” clutter here literally blocks the flow of positive energy into your space. (Read more…)
Feng Shui funny?
Here’s a cartoon from a graphic novel called “Asterios Polyps” by David Mazzucchelli, who clearly takes a dim view of Feng Shui.
The consultant is saying — “This is the most auspicious arrangement I could come up with, so I advise you not to move anything.”Strange odds & ends are strewn about the room; the furniture is at odd angles and even upside down.
Ouch! I know a lot of people out there believe this is what Feng Shui is all about — but needless to say, faithful reader, I don’t agree
To me, Feng Shui is a practical art, a way to create a beautiful, comfortable and secure space where you can be happy and productive.
The cartoon is fun and got my attention, but…

Tip of the Day: Your Family in Your Bedroom?
If your goal is to attract romance or enhance your relationship with your romantic partner, move your family photos to another room.

I love 'em -- but not in my bedroom!
Think about it: do you really want your Mom, Dad, kids or cousins watching you in bed? From a Feng Shui perspective family photos belong in pretty much any area of your home except your master bedroom.
The Family area of the Bagua — the middle of the left-hand side of your home — is the place for these photos. Move them out of your bedroom and discover how much more relaxed you feel!
Three Questions That Will Help You Get Organized
Good Feng Shui can’t happen in a cluttered environment.
Here are the three questions to ask yourself as you pare down and declutter:
- Do I love it?
- Do I use it?
- Do I need it?
If you don’t love it, use it or need it — out it goes!
Feng Shui Bedroom Makeover, Pt.1
I’m working on a big Feng Shui project right now for which I need sample before-and-after pictures.
A colleague and friend of mine — let’s call her Linda — kindly volunteered her apartment for the project, telling me she’s seeking a romantic relationship.
Linda lives in a large studio apartment with an alcove bedroom:

Linda's bedroom
I thought it might be interesting to share some of the ways I analyze a bedroom; here’s a really important one:

Putting myself in Linda's place.
In Feng Shui it’s key to have an awareness of the view when you lie on your bed, so that’s one of the first things I do in a client’s room. How about your bed: do you like what you see when you’re lying in it?
We’re just at the beginning of this project — stay tuned!
