Feng Shui’s Growing Influence In Real Estate

Here’s a quickie for you: a fascinating article from yesterday’s NY Times, “When Feng Shui Helps Determine A Deal’s Fate.”

Checking the Chi at the Empire State Building.

There are many ways to evaluate a space using Feng Shui and this article touches on just a few of them.  I’m not surprised to learn about Feng Shui’s growing influence as Asian businesses become more prominent in the US.

And one of my favorite types of jobs is evaluating a space before a business moves in so that egregiously bad Feng Shui can be avoided.

What do you think?  Is it wise for businesses to assess the Feng Shui before setting up shop in a new location?

Great Chi Energy Coming To Times Square

Newsflash: A river is coming to New York City this summer when Times Square’s streets will be painted like a river (!).

Times Square -- flowing like a river....

I’m not sure NYC’s Department of Transportation realizes it but this artwork will add an extra dose of great Chi energy to a city that already has loads of it, cooling down one of the hottest spots in town during the high summer months. (Read more about New York City’s great Feng Shui here).

Come to NYC and take a dip!

And thanks to Gothamist for the heads up on this fantastic project, by Brooklyn’s own Molly Dilworth.

I can hardly wait to see it.

P.S., In related news, the Champs Elysee in Paris was transformed into a temporary farm over the weekend!

Creating Success at the Cash Register

I loved seeing this little scene last week at a local — and very successful — coffee shop, City Bakery.

Feng Shui plants at retail.

Growth energy at the cash register.

The Wood energy of healthy plants is a great symbol for business growth — especially when it’s sitting right next to a tip jar filled with cash!

Does it give you any ideas for bringing positive energy and success into your business?

The Highline — Great Feng Shui In The City

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

This quote from John Muir pretty well sums up how I felt yesterday during my Chi-filled walk on Manhattan’s Highline Park with two good friends.

I hope these photos convey just how much nourishment we’re all receiving from this fabulous addition to the cityscape.

Daffodils

Daffodils, tulips, grasses -- and people.

A Redbud adds Fire energy to the scene.

Highline railroad ties.

Old railroad ties, sprouting to life.

Plantings 'lead the eye' into the distance.

The work crew: how the miracle happens :)

Have you visited the Highline yet? Please share your photos and thoughts!

A Feng Shui Field Trip: An Office In A Skyscraper

Last week I had the privilege of accompanying Feng Shui master RD Chin as he assessed the Chi energy of a new three-story office space in midtown Manhattan.

Feng Shui in NYC

RD Chin, assessing the Chi

The site is more than 30 stories up and in a very powerful location, with one side immediately facing the city’s central Chi point, the Empire State Building.

RD is planning important aspects of the space including the location of the CEO’s office and the placement of a large internal staircase to connect the three floors.

Office building interior

Working from a blank slate.

We discussed some of the interesting Feng Shui challenges presented by this huge space, especially finding a way to “ground” an environment that’s so high up, and compensating for two missing Bagua areas (Wealth & Relationship).

Working on a project like this requires an encyclopedic knowledge of Feng Shui so every possible issue can be addressed as early in the construction process as possible.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to create ideal Chi for a business right from the start.

How do you feel about working in an office that’s so high up off the ground? Do you love it — for the views? Or hate it — because it’s so far from the earth?
