Breaking Feng Shui Misconceptions About Under-Bed Storage

Must your under-bed storage be empty to comply with what Feng Shui deemed ideal?

Based on Stephanie Roberts, a feng shui professional, your bed is essential in feng shui because of two principles: Proximity and Duration. Proximity is when things closer to you affect you the most. While duration is when the longer you are with something, it will significantly influence you. Incorporating proximity and duration, anything near us as we sleep will affect us substantially since we spend almost one-third of our lives in bed.

With this said, anything near your bed, especially under it, dramatically affects the flow of your chi energy. Feng shui doesn't necessarily require you to empty the space under your bed; as long as it is clutter-free and energy can evenly flow around the energy fields of your bed, there is nothing to worry about.

This can lighten the burden of those who dwell in limited spaces, especially in the city, where keeping under-bed storage empty is impossible.

The following are some feng shui tips to maintain your under-bed clutter-free despite placing some items on it.

Tip #1: Your under-bed is not your alternative shoe rack.

In feng shui, a stash of shoes that are not adequately stored is considered clutter. Whether those footwears were unused or used, these all disrupt the energy flow and make you feel like running around the place even if you just woke up. It will give you a restless feeling no matter how many hours of sleep you'll get. So, place all your footwear on its designated shoe rack beside your door.

Tip #2: Souvenirs/memorabilia, photos, and off-season clothes have no place under your bed.

The emotional connection you have with these objects will disrupt the flow of energy. These all represent the past and will make you feel stuck along with it and prevent you from moving forward.

Tip #3: Electronics, old artwork, and books are big NO-NO under your bed.

Although these items stimulate your intellect, they can also give overpowering energy that prevents your mind from being at peace while having a good night's rest. Being on top of much information can cause your mind to chatter rather than be calm in your resting hours.

Tip #4: Don’t keep work-related things under your bed.

Anything that reminds you of heavy loads of work must not be placed under your bed. Work-related stuff will wear you down and hinder the flow of positive energy you need most during rest. Creating a working area apart from your room will guarantee your sleep quality.

Tip #5: Never make your under-bed a dwelling place for your collection of deadly weapons or sharp objects.

If you are fond of collecting these items, better keep them away from your bed. Not only it disrupts the flow of energy it will also contribute to a negative one. The potential violence it radiates can never add to the desired rest you want during the night.

Tip #6: Things you are not ready to deal with must not be under your bed.

Items like a newly bought dress, shoes, bags, books, a parcel just delivered, or a wrapped gift from a friend are examples of the things you are pending of using or opening, which are often placed under your bed. These random crammed items are the very cause of clutters that you don't want under your bed. It will obstruct your chi energy flow.

Tip #7:  You can store things under your bed which is meant for it.

These include your set of extra pillows, blankets, bed linens/sheets, and comforters. Things specifically designed for the bed will not cause any disruption in the energy fields. Make sure to place them still as neatly as possible. Doing this can also add to your convenience when it is time to replace them, as they are accessible anytime.

Tip #8: Take heed of your storage boxes.

An oval or round box is the best choice for your storage. The curves of these shapes will enable the chi energy to move freely around your bed.

Although oval and round storage boxes keep energy from stagnation, it also attracts the water element, which is to be avoided in bedrooms. So better observe how using these things affects your rest. If everything looks good, then you will have nothing to worry about.

Tip #9: Use a Storage-Bed design if possible.

This kind of bed is a better choice for you to achieve that clutter-free feeling under your bed. This bed type hides everything you need to store away from your eyesight, making your bedroom less messy. The storage-type bed will also make cleaning easier since your stored things will not quickly accumulate dust, unlike open-type ones.

The misconception of emptying out the space under your bed is just a workaround to stabilize the energy flow in your room. Remember that all other things allowed under your bed must be stored with intention. Make sure these things have a positive symbolic connection to you because these things can impact you in various ways. Avoid those things that bring you unfavorable energy when you think of them.

Your bed is your own personal space where you'll be able to get the calm you need after a long and tiring day. Make it as comforting and sacred as you want it to be.

Keeping all these tips in mind can guarantee your sleep like a baby!
