Just as it attracts good energy into the lives of grownups, Feng Shui creates a nourishing and supportive environment for kids, an atmosphere where they feel happy and successful right from the start.
Feng Shui considers youngsters so important that one of its eight Bagua Energy Map areas is dedicated to Children.
The Children area is associated with Joyful emotions and the harvest with its bountiful goodness.
It’s about laying a good foundation for the Future, which is what the younger generation is all about.
Here’s how you can create good Feng Shui in a child’s bedroom, giving them the safe, secure space they need to nurture their dreams.
1. Place your child’s bed in the Command Position. Place it across from the doorway so they can see people entering and leaving, but not facing the door directly.
2. The head of the bed should back up against a wall, providing an important “Mountain” of security. Placing one side of the bed against a wall provides an additional sense of safety, especially for very young children. As they mature they’ll feel more comfortable with space on both sides of the bed.
3. Bunk beds are fun and great for space-saving, but the child on the lower bunk is likely to feel oppressed by the bed above them. Adjust for this by painting the underside of the top bunk in a light color, and by encouraging the kids to switch bunks every once in a while.
4. Use color in kids’ bedrooms to create a calm, soothing environment. Lighter colors are best: light blue the most soothing, followed by light green for growth and light yellow for a bit of intellectual stimulation. Avoid bright primary colors, which can cause insomnia and over-excitedness. These colors are best saved for the playroom.
5. Feng Shui’s Bagua area called “Children” is aligned with the Metal element. Enhance your child’s bedroom with Metal with actual metal objects – but nothing too sharp or pointy! – white objects, and shapes that are rounded, like circular picture frames or oval rugs.
6. Mirrors are fine in children’s bedrooms for strengthening their sense of self. Just make sure it doesn’t reflect them as they sleep.
7. Electronic objects – TVs, video games, digital clocks and so on – emit harmful electromagnetic energy. Do your best to keep them to a minimum, and keep them at least 15″ from your child’s head or feet as they sleep.
8. Finally, clear a space in the middle of the room to attract healthy chi energy and give your child room to move around and play. Here’s where your child will get the healthy start he or she needs.
