Feng Shui Bedroom Makeover Part 5: A Good Headboard?

Linda’s been making great strides with her bedroom. One thing that’s definitely missing, though, is a headboard for her bed.

In a bedroom with good Feng Shui, a headboard provides an important “mountain” of strength & protection.

The mountain behind you is a key part of the all-important Command Position, giving you the feeling that you’re grounded and safe.

Linda’s room is very small, though, and there’s really no room for a headboard. So she’s considering a solution like this surprising one:

Yes, it’s a headboard decal that literally sticks to the wall! Seems crazy, right?

But in fact this decal  is a great solution for any tiny bedroom because it creates the shape of the Mountain without taking up any valuable space at all.

You can imagine how bereft this bed would look without its 2-dimensional headboard!

What a great idea! I’d love to see what the real thing looks like.

I love that headboard! It looks great, has a small footprint, and she can change it whenever she wants to get a different look.

Yes –it’s really great! I’m looking forward to posting another photo when Linda actually installs it.

Seriously? No. A headboard can add be as little as 2-3 inches deep. No decals please. It seems un-feng-shui to have something so unnecessarily false in one’s bedroom. . . but I am not an expert.

Thanks so much for the comment. You’re right that a decal headboard is not ideal because it doesn’t provide a physical “Mountain” in back of the bed, but Linda’s bedroom is extraordinarily small and every inch counts.

I’ve lived in situations where ripping the sheetrock off the wall to gain an inch or two made a big difference in my bedroom. This particular decal appears so solid that it does the Feng Shui job of symbolically providing good support for Linda’s bed.

Feng Shui is about Intention; the decal headboard is a good solution for a very tough space problem.

Great idea. I’ve painted headboards behind my beds before, but it’s important to put a “shadow” in it, depending of course where your window is, so as to give it some depth – or it simply looks like a flat decal. She could add a shadow with a paintbrush and it would help a lot.

The shadow is a really nice idea. It would definitely add depth and give the headboard more of a solid feeling. I know Linda is reading along with all the comments, so she’ll see this suggestion :) Thanks!

I think the decal is a great idea! I may resort to that since the guy remodeling the bathroom in our rental unit used the beautiful piece of plywood (I bought especially for a headboard) to patch the floor. Is it bad Feng Shui to call the guy an idiot? :)
