Five Steps To A Perfect Feng Shui Bedroom

Feng Shui considers the Master Bedroom, particularly your bed, to be the most important place in your home, because it’s where you live your innermost life – resting, dreaming, romancing.

Your deepest needs are addressed in the Bedroom: it needs to be your special haven in a busy world.

But the Master Bedroom often gets shortchanged, becoming a haven for clutter because it’s in the back of the home, or upstairs, or otherwise “out of sight” and you don’t spend much time there during a typical day.

In fact, of course, you spend over one-third of your life in your bedroom.

Here are five top Feng Shui Bedroom tips for creating a space that serves your deepest needs.

A bedroom with good Feng Shui.

A bedroom with good Feng Shui.

1. First, ask yourself, what is the purpose of my Master Bedroom? This may seem like a strange question to be asking in your bedroom, but take a look around.

Are you using it solely for sleeping and relaxing, or has it taken on the characteristics of some other activity – as an office, exercise room, library or playroom?

Rest and relaxation come first here. If a desk or exercise equipment must remain, set up a partition so they’re screened from the bed.

2. Declutter! When you clear the clutter you’ll discover how your Bedroom has really been functioning. Eliminate the psychic “noise” that comes with disorderly stuff, and give yourself the gift of a calming environment.

Organize closets and bureaus; make sure doors and drawers open and close freely. Edit kids’ toys and belongings to a bare minimum and put the rest where they belong.

Clear bookshelves of work-related books and other clutter. Best would be to move the shelves out of the room altogether or use them for things you truly love and use.

3. Be aware of the symbolism of artwork and photos. A bedroom needs particularly soothing and uplifting art and other images, so surround yourself with things that make you feel great.

Eliminate mirrors from your bedroom, too: their hard surfaces cause energy to bounce around, diminishing your ability to relax.

4. Arrange your bed in the “command position,” placing it where you can easily see the door. Set it up so it can be approached from both sides, welcoming to two people even if you live alone at the moment.

Set up good lighting, perhaps a small music system, and bring in sensuous colors and luxurious textures. Make sure, if you’re sharing this space with a partner, that each of you has personally significant items to enjoy here.

5. A TV in the bedroom is a common “disturber of the peace,” and brings unwelcome electromagnetic energy into your sanctuary. The best option is removing it from the room, but if this is impossible cover it up so it can’t beg to be turned on.

Caring for your Bedroom = Caring for Yourself

Bringing these Feng Shui Tips into your Master Bedroom will enhance your love life, help you stay grounded and focussed, and keep good Chi energy flowing in the rest of your life.

Very good ideas. I love the question “what is the purpose of my master bedroom”?. This is a question we should ask ourselves about every room in the house, and then keep only those things in the room that support the purpose.
If we asked ourselves this question more often, we would eliminate much of the clutter we have in our spaces!
Love your postings. Always so educational!

      Hi Cindy,

Thanks so much for the comment — I’m really glad you liked that question, especially. You’re right — really we DO need to be asking ourselves about the purpose of every room in our homes (and offices!). Once we’ve decided what the room is about, everything else can fall into place so much more easily.

What a great post! It is exactly what I need right now as I’m trying to figure out what to “do” with my Master Bedroom lately.

    Hi Ann!

I just found your website and I love it. I am moving into my first apartment and I just realized that my bedroom door is right in the spot of attraction/relationships and self esteem. What can I do to nurture these when a door is smack in the middle?

    • Ann

Hi Samantha, thanks for stopping by the blog. It sounds like your door might be in the perfect spot for “welcoming in” a healthy relationship and self-esteem. I suggest painting it a beautiful, rich and sensuous color to attract the love you desire!

I just discovered your site an am really enjoying it!  There’s so much great info here, and some info I haven’t found anywhere else.  In another article you said a metal bed is not good feng shui, which makes sense. However, I can’t change out my bed.  It’s a beautiful black metal frame with lots of curvy scrolls (headboard and footboard), and it has a simple black metal canopy. I had always wanted this bed and have really enjoyed having it. I use blue sheets and comforter. But what can I do to soften the metal effect and make it nicer, feng shui-wise? (BTW my marriage intimacy is dead – from my side, not his.) I hope you can offer me some simple cures for this! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge here!!
