Feng Shui considers the Master Bedroom, particularly your bed, to be the most important place in your home, because it’s where you live your innermost life – resting, dreaming, romancing.
Your deepest needs are addressed in the Bedroom: it needs to be your special haven in a busy world.
But the Master Bedroom often gets shortchanged, becoming a haven for clutter because it’s in the back of the home, or upstairs, or otherwise “out of sight” and you don’t spend much time there during a typical day.
In fact, of course, you spend over one-third of your life in your bedroom.
Here are five top Feng Shui Bedroom tips for creating a space that serves your deepest needs.
1. First, ask yourself, what is the purpose of my Master Bedroom? This may seem like a strange question to be asking in your bedroom, but take a look around.
Are you using it solely for sleeping and relaxing, or has it taken on the characteristics of some other activity – as an office, exercise room, library or playroom?
Rest and relaxation come first here. If a desk or exercise equipment must remain, set up a partition so they’re screened from the bed.
2. Declutter! When you clear the clutter you’ll discover how your Bedroom has really been functioning. Eliminate the psychic “noise” that comes with disorderly stuff, and give yourself the gift of a calming environment.
Organize closets and bureaus; make sure doors and drawers open and close freely. Edit kids’ toys and belongings to a bare minimum and put the rest where they belong.
Clear bookshelves of work-related books and other clutter. Best would be to move the shelves out of the room altogether or use them for things you truly love and use.
3. Be aware of the symbolism of artwork and photos. A bedroom needs particularly soothing and uplifting art and other images, so surround yourself with things that make you feel great.
Eliminate mirrors from your bedroom, too: their hard surfaces cause energy to bounce around, diminishing your ability to relax.
4. Arrange your bed in the “command position,” placing it where you can easily see the door. Set it up so it can be approached from both sides, welcoming to two people even if you live alone at the moment.
Set up good lighting, perhaps a small music system, and bring in sensuous colors and luxurious textures. Make sure, if you’re sharing this space with a partner, that each of you has personally significant items to enjoy here.
5. A TV in the bedroom is a common “disturber of the peace,” and brings unwelcome electromagnetic energy into your sanctuary. The best option is removing it from the room, but if this is impossible cover it up so it can’t beg to be turned on.
