More Bedroom Feng Shui: Computers In Bed?

Filed Under: Bedroom Feng Shui Tagged With: Feng Shui & Sleep, Feng Shui for Good Health, Feng Shui for Romance, Love & Relationships

If you suffer from insomnia, here’s another thing you can do to help yourself get to sleep at night: stop reading on your computer or tablet in bed.

Not a healthy bedtime companion.

CNN.com just ran a major article, Trouble Sleeping? Maybe It’s Your Ipad. on this worrisome topic.

The article’s many, many good points boil down to the fact that we’re wired to think it’s daytime if our artificial lighting contains too much blue-ish light; as the sun goes down, natural light becomes warmer, so artificial lighting with redder tones helps us to relax.

And from a Feng Shui perspective, having all that electrical current and the accompanying EMFs anywhere near your body as you sleep is extremely harmful.

Do you read on your computer in bed?  How does it seem to be affecting your sleeping habits?

Check out these other great Feng Shui sleeping and bedroom tips, too.

Luckily I work at a desktop which would be pretty inconvenient to take to bed! But you also need to watch the habit of constantly checking your smart phone for email and text messages. Turn it off before you get into bed.

Yes — very good advice. I’ve awakened with my husband’s smartphone in bed with us… which is really bad Feng Shui!

When I was pregnant with my third child my midwife suggested that I not work on the computer up until the time I go to bed. She suggested watching a little TV or reading a book.

It was so helpful! When I read just before going to bed (not from a computer, but from a book) I doze off immediately. When I work on the computer, it takes at least 30 mins to wind down.

Wow, that’s great — makes sense, right? I’m sure your baby was more relaxed, too 😉

      Thanks for the comment!

No computers or televisions in the bedroom. They keep my brain from shutting down. I didn’t know about this aspect of having a laptop.

Thanks for your comment, Kimberly. Laptops can be an issue in bedrooms both because of the EMF’s they emit, and because they’re such Yang items: very hard, aggressive energy. And you’re right, essentially they do prevent us from being able to relax : great point!

I am always on my Mac or iPad in bed. With the TV on too! Usually playing around, not actually working. Somehow I’m still sleeping OK. However I definitely agree with turning off the smart phone, I do this every night. So I guess I like the technology in bed on my own terms, doing what I want to do–not reacting to others’ emails.

Hi Caroline — sleeping well is what counts! I do suggest that you keep the electronics as far as you can from your head (and body!) while you’re actually sleeping, though, at least 2 feet away. Thanks for the comment!
