You might be surprised at all the variations of “toxic Chi” that I’ve seen under beds on my Feng Shui consulting rounds.

Here’s a partial list:

  • Divorce papers
  • Unloved artwork
  • Photos of ex-lovers
  • Old tax records
  • Dirty shoes
  • Vacuum cleaner parts
  • Children’s toys
  • and more!

Just think of the toxic aura that might be clinging to the items you sleep so close to, every single night.

Your ability to attract happy relationship Chi will improve immediately when you remove items with negative Chi energy from under your bed.

Feng Shui prefers that you keep your under-bed area clear, but space limitations mean that many of us need that space for storage.

If you must, store things here that have a neutral aura: spare pillows, blankets, and out-of-season bed linens, for instance.

Your love life will thank you :)

Great ideas, Ann! Our house has shoebox for closets, so I must keep my shoes under the bed in a big plastic bin. Can I at least cover it to help the flow of Chi?

I agree about things we don’t like. Basic housekeeping to remove old visages of former employment, relationships, and former lives should be removed to allow new breathing space.

Thanks Lisa. Yes, covering your shoes will help — make sure, too, to go through them a few times a year to make sure you still love them all and that they’re all in great shape.

I often ask clients to switch the storage of shoes with linens if at all possible. Storing linens under the bed can open up a lot of room in a closet for things like shoes.

    Hi Ann,

I love your articles, you always make them short and to the point and always give me so many great ideas! Thank you!

I have a similar dilemma as Lisa. Tiny closets, not much storage space. So my hubby keeps an under the bed plastic storage box filled with socks and undies. Are those ok under the bed? These are objects that are used on a daily basis so to him it is easy to pull the box out every morning to get his things.

Now you got me thinking. We have a piece of furniture that is a nice mission style trunk with legs near the bed. I usually just use it to store out of season clothing items. Maybe we can switch places between these two? (brain storming going on now lol)

    Thank you!

Switching the two sounds perfect Nigaya. Socks & undies in use on a daily basis keeps the energy “churning” under the bed — ideally you want the energy there to feel peaceful and calm, so off-season clothing would be better. The best things to store there (if you must!) are bed linens, blankets etc because their energy is SO neutral! Thanks for reading :)

I have a problem with those small bugs eating fabric that comes with dust, so I can’t store linens or anything made of fabric under my bed. So what will be the next best thing to store under my bed?

    • AnnFengShui

Marie, it sounds as though you need to keep the area under your bed free of “stuff” altogether in order to keep the bug problem at bay. This is the best possible Feng Shui in any case, so you will be creating excellent Chi flow this way.
