Are Dark Colors Bad Bedroom Feng Shui?

A reader recently asked whether it would be ok to paint her master bedroom a dark color.  She says that her room is flooded with sunlight, so a light color would make it almost too bright.

Does a bedroom have to be painted in pastel colors to have good Feng Shui?

The answer is no — in fact dark colors can create beautiful and sensual Feng Shui in a bedroom, as this photo clearly shows:
A dark bedroom with good Feng Shui

If your bedroom feels overly bright, that means it’s got too much Yang energy.

Bring it back to the Yin condition that’s most appropriate for bedrooms with darker colors, luxurious textures, and nourishing art.

And experience true relaxation in your new, dark and cozy sanctuary.

I agree. I’m also a feng shui blogger. I was taught that we should “pull our energy in” at night, which enhancing the yin energy would facilitate. If it’s too bright, our energy is too “out there.” We should make it feel more like a cocoon.

Thanks Jessica. It’s always great to get the “seal of approval” from a fellow Feng Shui blogger ;)

And you’re right — a dark room can really help create a calming, cocoon-like atmosphere, encouraging us to curl up for a good night’s sleep. It will be very important to make sure it’s nice and bright in the morning, though!

We finally indulged about a year ago and repainted one wall of our bedroom a deep, gorgeous purple. Between that and the purple velvet duvet cover, the room has a wonderful enveloping feel. Happy with the deep hue.

Use your favorite wallpaper on all the walls. The carpet can be either striped or just purple. A mirror would look like a nice addition for the room, you can also get a purple frame with it as well. Pink can be best option also.Pink bedrooms are not only for children, though this is the most common use. Using pink paint, furniture or upholstery in your bedroom decor can bring a special feel to the bedroom and make it a perfect place for a child or young teen.London Handyman Services

Wow, this photo looks so much like my newly redecorated bedroom, it makes me proud to know I am aligned with your recommendations. Especially since they came to me from YOU. Not 100% finished with the redo. The parts that remain “unfinshed”? The same parts that are unfinished in my life. Hmmm,

Hmmmm is right! I know you’ll find a way to address those areas when you’re ready ;) Meanwhile I hope you’re loving your new bedroom environment!
