Like Green, Blue can be used to represent the Wood element, as in the beautiful clematis in this photo.  For instance Blues that shade very close to Purple may be perfect for activating your Wealth corner, which is associated with the Wood element on the Bagua.

Dark blue also stands in for the Knowledge & Self-Cultivation sector of the Bagua, whose image is that of  monk meditating at the foot of a mountain.

I love this strong image of a snow-covered mountain and can easily imagine the peace and quiet one might find at its foot. Mountains, of course, are made of Earth, so here Blue is associated with a second of Feng Shui’s Five Elements.

Very dark blue-black evokes the Water element that belongs to the Life Journey sector of the Bagua, yet a third element that Blue can be used to represent.

Finally, palest baby blue can stand in for Metal, the element of planning and organization. 

So if you love Blue — and who doesn’t? – when should you use it for good Feng Shui, and when stay away from it?

The key to Blue is its coolness — obviously the only element it cannot be associated with is the sensual, emotional element of Fire.

So use a dose of Blue when you wish to bring a sense of calmness and peace into your environment. Be judicious in its application, using your Intention and awareness of Feng Shui principles to place accessories and furniture or paint your walls.

Blue adds depth to any space.  Enjoy its power in your life.

Of all the colors on the Feng Shui Bagua Map, Pink carries the most baggage as a shade that’s associated with femininity, and even girlishness.

Pink can definitely be difficult to integrate into certain styles of decor, and from a Feng Shui standpoint you certainly don’t have to use it if you don’t wish to.

(Remember, Feng Shui is a set of Tools, Not Rules!)

Whatever you think about Pink, you may wish to reconsider its merits once you’re aware of its uses in Feng Shui. 

Pink is the color that’s most closely associated with the Marriage & Relationship sector of the Bagua. 

• It evokes the warm, nurturing and motherly aspect of Feng Shui.
• Pink is associated with your bedroom, wherever it may be located in your home.
• Pink activates your Intention to care deeply for yourself in intimacy and trust.
• And of course it activates and anchors the energy of romantic relationships, whether you are happily involved with someone or seeking romantic happiness.

There’s a wide variety of shades of Pink to draw on.

Bring on the Pink when you’re looking to activate the energy of Mother Earth and all the soul-supporting nourishment she has to offer.

Since Pink is perhaps most easily integrated into bedroom decor, how about a simple Pink candle to set the mood there, or a beautiful bouquet of silk flowers for a more lively form of Chi?

• When you need to get organized White containers help you move through the decluttering process more easily than you thought possible.
• As you plan important projects, a Whiteboard or other White surface helps you think clearly and with discernment.
• When your day demands careful planning and attention to detail, White clothing sends the message to yourself and those around you that you mean business.

White is the color of self-reliance, strength and decisiveness. This “non-color” demands respect; it denotes sophisticated, logical thinking. Is it any wonder that White is so commonly used as a dominating color in offices? It’s the color of staying on-task.

Associated with Feng Shui’s Metal element, White activates Chi energy especially well in the Children/Productivity sector of the Bagua Map.

When you wish to create freedom and joy by strengthening personal boundaries, use White to support your goals.

Located at the Center of the Bagua Map, soft yet brilliant Yellow brings balance and stability to your environment.

Yellow is the color of nourishment and the earth’s warm embrace, symbolizing stability, support and boundaries in your life. 

Yellow is a good color to use in rooms where you wish to encourage a sense of warm connection. From painting your walls to placing Yellow objects, you create coziness and a sense of peace when you place Yellow with intention.

• In your living room, Yellow lifts the mood and supports the connections you wish to make in your family and social life.
• In your dining room, Yellow evokes the abundance of the harvest – the magic combination of earth and sun that bring delicious foods to the table.
• In your kitchen, Yellow balances the powerful Fire element, drawing off some of its power and stabilizing the room. Yellow also promotes health and nourishment, an important goal in any kitchen.
• Use Yellow when you need to set boundaries — to help you say No when you need to!

Where should Yellow be used more sparingly?

• Bedrooms may feel too awake with Yellow walls — tread carefully here, especially in an overactive child’s bedroom.
• Since Yellow represents the Earth element it is not ideal to use it when you feel stuck or unable to move forward with your plans.  Instead you’ll want to use “breakthrough” colors like Green or Red to create a sense of movement in your life.
• If you find that clutter is building in your space, eliminate Yellow items even temporarily, to help you achieve the breakthrough you need.

• Soft Green may be perfect for a child’s bedroom because it represents growth and family relationships.
• Since it’s important to have an aspect of the Wood element in every bathroom, consider Green towels, or a piece of art that features greenery.

Red is the color of the blood that flows through your veins, nourishing your heart and soul. It’s the color of Fire, warm and even hot to the touch. 

So — when should you use the color Red for Feng Shui, and when is it best to avoid it?

Use the color Red to support your Feng Shui when you wish to

• Activate romance and passion, especially in your bedroom.
• Revive a relationship that’s gone cold.
• Express yourself more clearly and bring greater visibility to yourself and your accomplishments
• Wake up a sleepy environment with sparks of color.
• Add a sense of joy, laughter and warmth to your space and your life.

It’s best to use a light touch to improve your Feng Shui with the color Red. See what happens as you add Red gradually. 

In your living room you might start by placing a few Red accessories rather than a huge red couch, or paint one dining room wall Red, rather than the whole room. 

It’s best to avoid Red when

• Your emotional life is overheated. Bickering, arguments and conflict call for cooler colors.
• You or someone in your family suffers from heat-related health challenges related to the heart or the bloodstream.
• Someone in your household is having trouble focusing, or demonstrates addictive behavior.

For good Feng Shui, every space needs at least a bit of Fire.

Can you feel them?

It’s a scary thought. Even if you’re not completely aware of it, when sharp angles in your environment are directed at you your subconscious knows what’s happening and does what it can to get out of the line of fire.

You may unconsciously swerve to avoid a sharp kitchen cabinet, or avoid sitting in a particular chair, or sleep at an odd angle in your bed — all this to avoid the harmful energy of the sharp angles around you.

“Poison arrows,” as these are called in Feng Shui, are created when the concentration of Chi energy in an object gathers exceptional force.
