The Earth Element: Stability and Nourishment

Filed Under: Feng Shui Basics & Essentials Tagged With: Earth Element, Feng Shui Color, Five Elements

The Earth element is all about feeling grounded and stable no matter what’s swirling around you.

If you’re feeling “spacy” or your life seems out of control, Feng Shui helps you rebalance by strengthening your connection with Earth.

As the element representing the Mother in Feng Shui, Earth’s role is to nourish and support you, providing a safe haven in a sometimes unstable world.

Here are a few powerful ways to bring it into your space.

1. Paint it Yellow.
In much of China, the earth itself is Yellow. Responsible for healthy crops and a wealthy nation, Yellow became one of the most important colors in Feng Shui.

So painting your walls a soft shade of Yellow one of the easiest ways to bring the all-important Earth element into your space.

2. Use flat, horizontal shapes.
Ancient beliefs about the “flat earth” come into play with the shapes that symbolize Earth: square, flat & horizontal.

Horizontal objects like tables and low couches bring Earth into your space easily and beautifully.

3. Display objects made from Earth.
Tiles, ceramics, bricks and other materials made of Earth also give a space a sense of groundedness.

Square ceramic plates and tiles always transmit a strong sense of stability and calm, don’t you agree?

What a great post! With fall coming soon this is very helpful. Nice pottery would be good and beautiful mountain landscape art would be nit too. All the soft golden colors of fall remind me of mother nature or mother earth getting ready for everything to rest until spring again. It is a soothing and peaceful time of the year – one of my most favorite seasons.
