Feng Shui Bedroom Art: Do’s & Don’ts

Filed Under: Bedroom Feng Shui, Feng Shui No-No's Tagged With: Case Studies, Decorating with Feng Shui, Feng Shui Art, Feng Shui for Romance

When you’re setting up your bedroom with Feng Shui, think carefully about the art you keep around yourself.

The images you go to sleep and wake up with every day have an outsize influence on your heart, mind and energy, so Feng Shui has some very strong views on the art for a bedroom.

I’ve worked with many clients whose intention is to attract a healthy relationship, but the art in their bedroom says sadness and solitude.

For example:

If you’re looking to attract romance with Feng Shui, pairs artwork is best.

I definitely advise against decorating with art that depicts a lone woman, hanging her head and with her back against the world. Likewise with something like this:

Picasso -- The Old Guitarist painting
The Old Guitarist by Picasso, courtesy of art.com

This forlorn and skeletal guitar player transmits a message of loneliness and scarcity every time you look at him.

Avoid artwork that depicts a “single” image. When you’re seeking a happy relationship, this type of art sends exactly the wrong message, both to your inner self and to anyone who sees it in your home.

Similarly, this poster, which I saw in one client’s bedroom, shows Jennifer Lopez aiming her gun at her lover, George Clooney, in the movie “Out Of Sight.”

This is not just a relationship-destroying image. In my client’s case, the husband was suffering from tremendous health problems which began to subside as soon as they removed the poster.

The messages you reinforce to yourself in your environment become the signals you internalize and send out to the world.

It is much better from a Feng Shui point of view to use bedroom artwork like this:

A fresh and vital image of two flowers is not too flowery, yet it transmits a positive message of hope, growth and togetherness all at once.

And one more way to bring Feng Shui “pairs” energy into your bedroom?

Hang two photos or other pieces of art that relate to one another, to convey a message of connectedness and relationship.

Do you like the “relationship imagery” you have around you? Is it time for a change?

Yikes! I can’t believe those art pieces were in bedrooms. I have seen a lot of single woman images, but nothing as dark or violent as those.

I know, it’s actually very sad. I’m always glad to go on consultations when I can make an adjustment to this kind of thing, and change someone’s life for the better immediately. Thanks for your comment!

Then, what should be done if the owner of these pictures really love these art pieces? he/she can’t just throw away these art pieces, can he/she? I heard every feng shui problem does have a “remedy”….. What is your view?

Melany, if the owner loves these pictures there are always choices. One is to do nothing if he/she sleeps well and has a happy and fulfilling life (because we don’t fix what is not broken). Another choice is to move them to another room in the home such as the living room, where they are more appropriate than in the bedroom.

      Hello Jan,
The Van gogh painting is fine; the key thing to notice is whether it lifts your spirits when you look at it. It is hard to say anything about color for your parents’ bedroom without knowing more about their situation. Please let me know if you’d like to set up a mini-consultation.

If the bedroom small and ti change the bed itself that to the wall and the mirror big is facing the bed ..S’s the head to the wall and the mirror reflect the bed from the feet ..and in the room picture of marlin monoro ..nariwd couples with 2 children what do u think my sister

      Hello Iman,
It is not ideal Feng Shui to have a mirror facing your bed directly. It may be OK to have a picture of Marilyn Monroe- I would need to know more about your life to give you good advice about that. Please let me know if you would like to set up a mini-consultation.

Hello Ann, I would love to put a painting of a ballerina tying her slipper. She has got a smile on her face and she seems to be Happy with herself but she is the only person in the painting. Would it be correct? We are two in the bedroom, my husband and I. I wouldnt like to put another ballerina painting, you know, too many ballerinas and my hubby would say that the room would be too femenine.
    Thanks, Yolanda.

Yolanda, For the best Feng Shui energy for you and your husband, I would suggest putting the picture of the ballerina in another room in your home, and using artwork that represents a happy couple in your bedroom.

Dear Ann, I liked your article. My husband gave me a picture of the moon. The sky is black with tiny dots. I like the picture, but would it be good in the bedroom? I thought maybe also for the helpful people area it might be good, or the career area?

      Hello Lydia,
Your ideas are good ones for placing your picture of the moon, and it’s especially nice to place it there as it is a gift from your husband. Do you have other art in your bedroom with which the moon (as a “single” object) would balance? That’s a key consideration for romance in the bedroom 🙂
