You may be surprised to learn that there are no color absolutes in a Feng Shui bedroom.
The colors you choose for your bedroom should correspond to your life situation and the Intentions you have to create positive, healthy life changes.
Feng Shui Bedroom Colors That Support Your Intention
Skintones — Colors in the vast range of humanity’s skintones come the closest to being a must in a Feng Shui bedroom.
From the palest pinks to the deepest shades of eggplant, these beautiful rich colors evoke the sensuality and comfort that’s desirable in any bedroom.
Reds — The “hot” color of romance is always a plus when you’re going for a loving, sexy atmosphere.
- The question here is one of degree: if your intentions include love and romance, you’ll use more of these “Fire-y” intense colors in your bedroom. Accents and accessories may be just right, though!
Greens and Blues — These soothing shades add Feng Shui that cools things down. Use them if your life feels overheated, to bring a bit of balance back into your life.
- These colors also represent the idea of Family and New Beginnings in your life, so they’re appropriate when you’re trying to start a family or stabilize family relationships.
Yellows — Use sparingly! Bright colors like yellow are a good Feng Shui color accent, but usually won’t be appropriate as the dominant color in your bedroom.
Neutrals — Taupes, whites and creamy colors create the calm atmosphere you may crave, but be careful that the entire room doesn’t become “a snooze.”
Use the other colors in your palette to make sure the room retains a sense of fun and pleasure.
- Rich textures add sensuality to a neutral-colored bedroom. Silks, nubbly wools and soft cotton create a pleasurable space that’s also easy on the eyes.
Beyond color, from furniture selection and placement to art Feng Shui offers everything you need to make your bedroom the nourishing, supportive place you desire.

Nice post about bedroom color. I’ve just changed my colors to these very things. Great energetic synergy with us. Hugs Sheevaun http://sheevaunmoran.com
Thanks Sheevaun — would love to see some before & after pics if you have them!
Ann,
What a helpful wonderful lesson in color palette Feng Shui for the bedroom. My pillows are quite colorful but the bedding is neutral so I’m really glad to know most of what I’m doing at least in the color area is right. One set I use sometimes are a deep red and orange (Indian) color styling, would love to know more about what that would evoke?
Susan
Hi Susan, the deep red & orange bedding will add a lot of Fire-y energy to your bedroom, so you’ll need to decide if that feels balanced for you 🙂 It might make your room invitingly sensual, or might be a little TOO hot — it’s up to you.
Ann, this is so interesting! I think I have achieved a good balance with lots of bright accent pillows in greens and blues, white walls and black duvets and furniture. The rugs are green against hard wood floors. I feel so relaxed and comfy in the space!
Thanks Ellen — the key is definitely feeling relaxed in your own bedroom! If that’s the case then you probably don’t need to make any changes at all.
I’m glad I came across this comment. I have been researching feng shui (as well as Chinese astrology / elemental personality types) a lot recently and I started to get very confused about what “rules” and whatnot take priority… it’s nice to remember that in the end, these rules are really just guidelines – I will keep learning because they help direct my path, but in the end I don’t really even need them because it’s my intuition that will tell me what works and what doesn’t (although learning the rules will make it much faster than trial and error just on tuition!)
How do you feel about a shiny taupe or medium brown material – either on the bed or drapes? Would it be considered more metallic or wood?
Also I’ve seen some sources cite brown as wood, others as earth, what’s your take?
Hello Kasey,
Shiny material is usually considered Metal, but the pattern and colors in the material may add other elements as well.
Brown is not a Wood color but it may be an Earth color if it is a light shade and/or closer to yellow. Dark brown is likely to be a Water color as it is so close to black. Shades of green, and some blues, represent the Wood element.
Ann, this is such a fun topic! I have to confess, I play it safe when it comes down to painting the walls. (My bedroom is a neutral color). Now, that I know that there is a true meaning for the colors I select; I’ll be looking for more ideas to paint my kitchen, dining room, and living room.
Thanks April — let me know what you decide to do. Color can make a huge difference in the balance and harmony throughout your home.
Hi 🙂 Am changing the colour of my bedroom’s wall soon any suggestions? my whole life is a mess these days( business, health and family)..wondering if green would help attract some balance? 🙂

Hello 🙂 I was wondering how many pillows I should keep in my room . I sleep with one and I have two new ones ?
Hi Sammie, thanks for writing! Three pillows sounds fine from a Feng Shui perspective; just to make sure you’ll find more guidelines on this here: https://openspacesfengshui.com/feng-shui-tips/2012/05/pillows-feng-shui-bed/
